How to Use Face Oils, the Right Way
______________________________________
When your recipe for a great skin is way off balance, trust the wise ones to give you some tips. One of the first things that comes to mind when talking about healthy skin care is face oil — this useful magic potion has curing powers on so many things. But when should you use it? How much is enough? And how do you stop your face from producing additional sebum after using it? Keep on reading, my friend…
When to use face oil
Face oils should always be applied last! To start, let’s talk about which products should be used in what order. When it comes to skincare, you want to layer your products from thinnest to thickest on your face. This is because the thinnest products will soak into your skin the most easily and make a better foundation for the thicker products. If you use oil first, all your serums & potions won’t properly absorb into the skin. Also, if you use oil on your face during the day, you want to apply SPF over it. It’ll help protect your skin (and keep it looking youthful) while preventing darkening/aging due to sun exposure. So oil, then sunscreen, then essence/serums/toner/etc.
How to use face oil
To moisturize: Using oils gives your skin a boost. For those with oily skin wondering “no way! It will make me more oily and break out” no, face oils will balance out your skin's natural sebum production.
Facial : a lot of aestheticians (including me) will end your treatment with a face oil. If you do facials at home, do your routine and end it with a face oil and a nice face massage using gua sha, jade roller, ice globes, or even your hands.
How face oil helps your skin
Inflammation and aging: Our high quality oil, Moon oil, is packed with antioxidants that absorb quickly so it doesn't leave a greasy film on your face. The oil makes your skin tighter, firmer, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, leaves your skin soft and helps reduce redness caused by inflammation.
Dry: Oils are the best if you have dry flaky skin. It’s also great if you have uneven texture & are fighting signs of aging. After your nightly skincare routine, use it last and go to sleep, you will wake up with radiant and smoother skin.
Oily, acne prone, blemish prone: Moon oil is a good oil for everyone but especially if you have oily skin. it’s super light-weight & absorbs really quickly, which is ideal if you are already feeling oily. I always say that using oils helps balance out your own skin oils and helps regulate your sebum production. Usually, when you have overly dry skin, your skin will overproduce oil to keep it healthy.
Sensitive skin: Face oils are amazing for redness and sensitivity. Jojoba and rosehip oil along with sea buckthorn oil in the Moon oil helps soothe the skin and calm any irritation.
Oils for different skin type
Dry/ normal/ combination skin: If you have dry skin, hydrate your skin with facial oils. Facial oils will coat your skin and protect it from trans epidermal water loss for healthy, smooth and hydrated skin.

- Grapeseed oil
- Squalane
- Rosehip oil
Acne/ oily prone skin : Many facial oils are extremely effective for treating acne and reducing oil production. If you have clogged pores, try adding an anti-inflammatory facial oil with antibacterial properties to your face regimen. Face oils compliment oily skin by balancing out your skin's oil production.
- Tea tree oil
- Squalane oil
- Jojoba oil
- Evening primrose oil
How to use oil
After cleansing, apply a few drops into your palms & press it onto your face. You can also add this to your moisturizer or foundation &/or use it on your body, hair or nails.
Facial oil is not just for all skin types but also for all ages. It’s not just to use in the winter but also year-round. The most common misconception about facial oil is that it will break out your skin when used consistently. Facial oils work best if used on clean skin at the end of your skincare routine. Facial oils should be used by people of any skin type and won't clog pores or cause acne breakouts if used regularly. The oils blend with your face’s natural oils and provide it with the hydrating effects that you need. They are filled with the vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, and fatty acids that your skin needs to look healthy again. And you don’t have to worry about being healthy because facial oil is more than just that. It prevents premature aging of the skin, keeps your pores clean, tightens them so nothing can get into them and gets clogged which causes pimples and oily skin. If you’ve been using face masks regularly in your beauty regimen you should definitely start using facial oils as a supplement.
